She never received formal training but taught herself to paint after moving to Southern Rhodesia in the 1950s. Upon returning to the UK, she moved to Plymouth, where she managed a busy seaside boarding house and painted the eccentric characters she observed in local pubs and drag shows. Her first breakthrough solo exhibition in 1975 quickly turned her into a beloved public figure, celebrated for her humorous art style. She was awarded an O.B.E. in 1995 for her contributions to British art and passed away in Plymouth in 2008.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eItem Number: 2207266\u003c\/p\u003e","brand":"Markies Antiques","offers":[{"title":"Default Title","offer_id":42517765259346,"sku":null,"price":795.0,"currency_code":"GBP","in_stock":true}],"thumbnail_url":"\/\/cdn.shopify.com\/s\/files\/1\/2136\/2169\/files\/BerylCookPrint2.jpg?v=1784715771","url":"https:\/\/markiesantiques.co.uk\/products\/getting-ready-limited-edition-beryl-cook-print","provider":"Markies Antiques","version":"1.0","type":"link"}
