A New Chapter: Markies Antiques - A Three-Generation Legacy Continues

For over five decades, our family has been a custodian of extraordinary design, connecting discerning collectors with antiques that are not merely objects, but pieces of history. We are proud to announce a new chapter in our story: a transition to Jacob Markies’ leadership and a new name, Markies Antiques.

Chapter One: The Founding of Aspidistra Antiques (1970)

Our legacy began in 1970, when Jeroen’s mother founded Aspidistra Antiques. What started as a small, family-run shop was built on a foundation of a deep love for beautiful objects and a commitment to expertise. It was here, surrounded by treasures, that a young Jeroen Markies first learned the craft of restoration and the art of curation. This was the origin of a passion that would span generations.

Chapter Two: Jeroen's Era and the Birth of Jeroen Markies Art Deco

After years of working alongside his mother, Jeroen took the helm of the family business. Driven by a passion for the sleek lines and opulent materials of the era, he chose to specialise, transforming the business into Jeroen Markies Art Deco. With a new name and a refined focus, he established an international reputation for his unwavering commitment to provenance and quality craftsmanship, becoming a trusted specialist in the field. This specialisation allowed us to build the unparalleled collection of Art Deco treasures you know today.

Chapter Three: Jacob's Vision and the Future as Markies Antiques

The transition to Jacob’s leadership is the latest chapter in our family’s story. As Jeroen’s son, Jacob brings a fresh perspective that honors the traditions of the past while embracing the opportunities of the future. His vision is to expand our curatorial focus beyond Art Deco to include a wider array of historically significant antiques. The name change to Markies Antiques reflects this expanded mission, allowing us to showcase a more diverse and intriguing inventory that spans different eras and aesthetics. We are also proud to be a member of prestigious organisations, such as the British Antique Dealers' Association (BADA).

Our core values-meticulous restoration, transparent provenance, and a personal, client-focused service-remain the foundation of everything we do. We invite you to join us on this exciting journey.
