Description
Designed by Hans J. Wegner for Carl Hansen & Søn in 1950, the CH23 dining chairs are a masterclass in Mid-Century Modern Danish design, celebrated for their clean, organic lines and exceptional craftsmanship. The chairs feature a gently curved, form-fitting wooden backrest beautifully detailed with Wegner’s signature cross-shaped inlays that seamlessly mask the structural joints. The seats are hand-woven, made from durable paper cord.
Four ink stamped and date circa 1950 with the silver foil label used towards the mid- late 1950's. All chairs date from the 1950's. Two have been re-woven to a very high standard with a double weave.

Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007)
Widely known as the "Master of the Chair". Trained originally as a master cabinetmaker before studying furniture design, he famously combined deep structural logic with organic, sculptural beauty. Over his highly prolific career, Wegner designed more than 500 chairs, many of which—like the Wishbone Chair, Round Chair, and CH23—became permanent fixtures in design history and world-class museum collections. His foundational philosophy focused on stripping designs down to their bare essentials, ensuring that exquisite form never compromised absolute comfort.
