Description

A Mid-Century Italian mirrored console by Osvaldo Borsani. Walnut with original mirrored glass and a secret drawer underneath the mirrored shelf.

Osvaldo Borsani (1911–1985) was an influential Italian architect and designer who transformed 20th-century furniture design by merging traditional craftsmanship with industrial engineering. After graduating from the Politecnico di Milano in 1936, he initially worked for his family’s artisan workshop, collaborating with prominent avant-garde artists like Lucio Fontana to create unique, art-integrated interiors. In 1953, Borsani and his twin brother Fulgenzio founded Tecno, a pioneering manufacturer dedicated to mass-producing technologically advanced furniture. Under his creative direction, Tecno produced mid-century masterpieces like the adjustable P40 lounge chair and the D70 sofa, both celebrated for their innovative mechanical joints. His later work revolutionized corporate workspaces through modular systems, securing his legacy as a titan of Italian modernism whose designs are preserved in elite institutions like MoMA.
